Managing Projects

In any projects that we get ourselves into, doesn’t matter in what line or industry – the most important task is handling and managing the project. Big problems can arise when projects are mismanaged. Over the years that I’ve been doing business, I had the chance to handle some of the most difficult projects.
Back then, I used to be defensive about everything. It’s so stupid! I didn’t know how to handle my clients and partners/freelancers. I didn’t have a corresponding list of tasks, feedbacks and checklists – communication with the clients are not recorded properly for reference = all these things should be avoided at all costs!
Now, I feel more confident about handling a project. I keep track of all communication with clients and partners/freelancers. I have a simple tasks, feedbacks and checklists document that I saved in different versions each time there are new stuffs coming in or out.
And always always always keep your files and folders arranged in a systematic way. 2 months after the project’s done (with Layout 10 as the final design), your client might want to revert to Layout 1’s design! If you don’t keep your files and folders arranged nicely, you won’t be able to locate Layout 1!
If you’re going to work with a couple of people, say 1 programmer, 1 designer and you are the designer. Separate each other’s works into 2 different folders on the Development Server. Since the programmer will be doing most of the dirty work (hooking up the designs to system) – restrain from giving him a hard time, don’t mess with his files and if you need him to update something for your part, tell him precisely what he needs to do and provide him with all the codes and resources that he’d need! And it’d help if you make a nice checklist for him, he’d definitely appreciate it!
Well, that’s all for now! Hope the tips I provided will help you in juggling works between being a Project Manager and Web Designer
Remember, in any project, there should ALWAYS be someone who acts as the Project Manage – don’t expect everyone to know what’s going on without someone pointing it out, nobody has time for that!
* i haven’t written an insightful post in a long time eh ;p
